Spring has sprung! March 31, 2016 15:14
After this grey winter, I can’t wait for spring to be here! Pastels are THE trend this coming Spring Season – apple mint, peached pink and cosmic lavender. Applepear’s Sunrise Gem Collection with Ombre Purple Amethyst matches this color scheme perfectly.
Luck is Believing You're Lucky. March 10, 2016 11:00
This St. Patrick's Day we're channeling a bit of Irish luck with our new horseshoe collection!
Horseshoe's are traditionally believed to bring good fortune, although the origin of this belief goes back to several different tales. Here is some interesting folklore on this ancient symbol:
In the Irish story of the blacksmith and the devil, one day a blacksmith was working hard in his shop forging horseshoes. Suddenly, the devil appeared and demanded his own shoes. The blacksmith, recognizing the devil, took a burning hot shoe and nailed it deep into the devil's hooves. After walking away, the devil was in such excruciating pain, he ripped the horseshoes off and swore he would never go near one again. Thus, the tradition of hanging a horseshoe over the entrance of a house to ward off evil spirits was born.
Another story has more to do with the metal in the horseshoes. Early Western Europeans believed that iron had magical powers. Iron could drive away evil, and folklore of the time told of many malevolent fairies and mystical creatures. Since horseshoes were made of iron, they kept the badly behaving fairies away. Other legends said that witches were so afraid of iron horseshoes, they traveled on broomsticks instead of on horseback. Yet another states that 8th-century Chaldeans believed the crescent shape of the horseshoe protected against the evil eye, thus making it a good luck charm. - How Stuff Works
Horseshoes have also traditionally had seven holes for nails - seven being the luckiest number in many cultures.
Who couldn't use a little more luck in their life? Folklore aside, there is power in positive thinking. We like to think you get what you project into the world. Luck can only find you if you are open to it. So we love this little reminder to believe that luck can find us wherever we are!
Luck is believing you're lucky! Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Caring for Your Jewelry February 26, 2016 13:03
We hope you are enjoying the beginnings of Spring!
Spring cleaning has certainly entered my mind. Open windows have a way of showing you places that need freshening up in the home. That's one of the reason's I think it's a good time to review some tips and tricks for keeping jewelry sparkling year after year! They get worn throughout the seasons and can sometimes use a little TLC, too.
Gold and Gemstones.
Gold and gemstones tend to need a cleaning at least once a year, especially around the settings. To loosen grime first soak the jewelry in a bowl of warm water and a little mild soap, like dish soap or shampoo. Next, a soft-bristled toothbrush works great for doing a little detailed scrubbing in crevices. Rinse with water and let air dry to finish.
Sterling Silver has a tendency to tarnish over time. Cleaning Sterling Silver uses the same warm water and mild soap mixture as you would use for gold, however Silver should NOT be soaked in the solution, as that could further produce tarnishing. Instead of soaking, dip a soft cloth into the soapy water and then wipe your jewelry clean with the cloth. If the jewelry is heavily tarnished you may need a stronger solution. In this case mix three parts baking soda with one part water, and mix into a paste. Then gently work the paste around the jewelry with a soft microfiber cloth. Rinse and pat dry.
Upkeep and Storage.
Jewelry should be removed before bed, showering, and exercising to prevent excess wear and tear. Store your jewelry in a dry place (not the bathroom!). You may even want to keep pieces in plastic bags to help prevent tarnishing.

Cozy Up to Love January 22, 2016 15:55
Here are a couple looks we've put together to keep your date nights cozy warm in the winter! Now you won't have to ask your hunny for their coat (which let's be honest, doesn't match your outfit anyways!).
One idea to keep yourself dressed warmly on date night is to channel your inner badass. Dark wash denim, a sleek black leather jacket, and little black booties always flatter and look sexy. You can soften up the look with a bright colored top, preferable with a more feminine texture like lace or shimmery silk. Add a little sparkle of jewelry and you're good to go!
Top and jacket: H&M. Sunset Earrings and Epic Duet Necklace, Applepear Jewelry.
Denim: Mother. Booties: Lucky Brand.
Another warm look you can't go wrong with is a nice long sleeve midi dress with tights and heels. The look we've put together is quite modern and chic, but this is a style you can play up more 1950's retro too! When it's chilly out tights are a gals best friend. Pick a slightly sheer pair to really emphasize the Va Va Voom. And of course a good pair of black pumps never disappoint.
Dress: Topshop. Pumps: Dolce & Gabbana. Fringe Earrings by Applepear Jewelry (Coming soon to our online store!)
Fitness Style Inspiration January 14, 2016 16:01
For all of you who are rocking and rolling on your 2016 fitness goals we have a little style inspiration for you! Keep looking and feeling fabulous, you're on your way!
Tone Down the Vibe
Athletic apparel often comes in extremely vibrant colors and busy patterns, so a fun way to mix it up is to play up the opposite with your accessories. You can go monochromatic in whatever shade you choose, but try to match several pieces in it. We recommend starting with the most practical element of your fitness outfit - your shoes - and then matching other pieces from there. We chose this pretty neutral tan color, however if you plan on working out in the great outdoors you may want to go with a darker shade that won't show dirt as easily.
Wether you've heard the term Athleisure before or not, I guarantee you've attempted some variation of it on your own. Athleisure is simply taking your workout gear and turning it into something presentable for everyday wear. If you're a busy gal this is style heaven if you can pull it off! First you'll want a quality pair of yoga pants that can offer a little bit of support and stretch without being see-through. If you go for black leggings try to find a pair that has black lycra in it. That way when it stretches you won't see the shiny discoloration that regular lycra has. Then you'll also want to find a nice tunic length top or sweater which offers a little more coverage over that cute booty of yours. And finally, a pair of mid-calf or knee-high boots pull the look together in a sporty and stylish way. This combination will never fail you! Easy peasy.

Keep Those New Year's Resolutions! January 6, 2016 12:55
If you're a little nerdy like me, you might get very excited about creating your list of New Year's Resolutions. For me it's a fairly detailed process that begins somewhere in the middle of December (because I'm just too excited to wait any longer!) with recaps of the year prior, vision boarding, inspiration hoarding, and finally several working drafts of the all-mighty resolution list. It can really be quite fun when you get into it!
The truth is, however, that I wasn't always such a Resolution nerd. In fact, I used to be quite the opposite. Years of failed lists tended to make me feel like the whole process was useless. It's a scheme made up by fitness and health guru's to make an extra buck. Resolutions just set yourself up for failure. Trying to limit or morph yourself is demeaning to the very essence of living life to the fullest. These are all things I used to tell myself. But it doesn't have to be that way!
Here are my tips for making your New Year's Resolutions enjoyable, attainable, and worth the effort:
1. Celebrate your successes!
You're going to have plenty of time to get into the nitty gritty of your goal's list. So don't get ahead of yourself! The VERY first thing you need to do is give yourself a big pat on the back. If you had a resolution list the year before you need to do a recap to celebrate the things you accomplished. Retype your goals list as an "I did it!" list. Even add extra things you are proud of that weren't necessarily on your list. If you didn't have a list last year that's ok too! Just take some time to reflect on things you accomplished the year before. When you are done I want you to prominently display this list in your main work area. All year long you can look at it and remember just how badass you are. This will give you an extra boost of confidence when you need it!
2. Get inspired and create a vision.
Resolutions should be things that feed your soul. They should make you feel good and accomplished on the inside. Resolutions that are aligned with your true happy self are just easier to stick to. So take some time now to reflect on the things that make you happy. For this I find Vision Boarding to be extremely important. You need to mentally get a clear picture of what your dream life looks like. This vision will keep you moving in the right direction throughout the year, even if the individual steps aren't always perfectly clear. And this isn't just some new age mumbo jumbo. Visualization practices such as vision boarding have been scientifically proven to produce results.
"Mental imagery impacts many cognitive processes in the brain: motor control, attention, perception, planning, and memory. So the brain is getting trained for actual performance during visualization. It’s been found that mental practices can enhance motivation, increase confidence and self-efficacy, improve motor performance, prime your brain for success, and increase states of flow – all relevant to achieving your best life!" - Psychology Today.
So have fun creating a vision board, and make sure you keep it somewhere you'll see it throughout the year.
3. Find the lead domino.
I was listening to a podcast with Tim Ferriss (Ep 49 20:25) a while back and he brought up this idea of "The Lead Domino" that absolutely blew my mind. It's a concept that completely recognizes our innate limitations as human beings, and yet gives us a tool to grow with that reality in mind. The truth is we can only give our focus, time, and energy to so much in life. If we make a resolutions list that tries to encapsulate EVERYTHING we are indeed setting ourselves up for failure, because we simply cannot do everything! This is where the lead domino comes in. First, make a rough list of things that go along with your vision board that you would like to accomplish this year. Now imagine this: every single thing you are dreaming of accomplishing this year is a singular domino. All of these dominos are lined up in a row. The thing with dominos is that you don't have to push over every single one, you just need to push over the lead domino. So which item on your list is the lead domino? Which resolution, if accomplished, will have the most effect on all the other dominos? Is there one resolution that at least touches on and affects several other items on your list? If you can find that one thing, that is your lead domino for the year -- that is your BIG GOAL NUMBER ONE.
If you are having a hard time sorting out whether things effect each other try this: write out each goal on a post it note, and then move them around where you think they relate to each other. If your post-it notes bunch around one thing that is your lead domino! It's important you do this exercise so that your resolutions list is actually attainable and effective. You can add some other items to your list as well, but make sure they are important and won't overwhelm you.
4. Break big resolutions into smaller goals.
Now it's time to get specific. You have your Resolutions list. Now you need to break those down into a bigger list of actionable goals. Really, at this point, you should be thinking of your Resolutions List as a Goals List. Resolutions, as well-intended as they may be, are usually pretty vague. Goals are specific.
Ok, so let's say one of your resolutions is to get a raise at work. Now HOW are you going to accomplish that? Come up with specific actions that are smaller and more focused. Don't just wish for a raise, focus on the things you need to do to get there. Such as getting certified in a new computer program, planning a networking meeting once a month, reading one work-related book every month, speaking up at every work meeting, etc. Once you start crossing these smaller goals off your list it gets addicting, and you'll keep at it all year long as your Big Resolution gets closer and closer in sight. Trust me, small goals add up to big things!
I hope these tips help you focus and feel successful in the coming year! I'd love to hear your thoughts, or what you determine to be your Lead Domino for the year! Happy 2016, or as I recently heard from a friend -- Sweet '16!
Party in Style! December 15, 2015 21:10
The holiday season is always a time to gather with friends, family, and coworkers to celebrate the year past, the year to come, and the love and friendship we share that makes it all worth while.
With all the events that happen this time of year you'll want to have a couple party outfits up your sleeve. Just in case you need a little inspiration we've put together some looks to help you sparkle and shine through the holiday season. We had a lot of fun putting these together for you! We hope they give you some ideas!
Night on the Town
If you're going to be out and about a playful and chic jumper just can't be beat! You don't have to sacrifice comfort and warmth to get fancy, and this one-piece from Ripley Rader proves just that. Wear with flats or your favorite heels and you're good to go. We decided to go monochromatic with our outfit so the beautiful colors in our Sunrise Gem Bangle and Sunset Lariat Necklace would really pop. The length of the lariat necklace also accents the beautiful deep V neckline of the jumper.
Office Party Chic
We love this beautiful gem-toned dress from Modcloth. It is both structured and feminine - perfect for a bit of office-appropriate fun. This look easily goes from day to night. Helpful hint: if you wear skin-toned flats it will give your legs the more lengthy appearance we usually love from a pair of heels! We've paired this look with our chandelier Sweetgum Earrings and Strand Bracelet with Labradorite beads.
Happy New Year!
New Year's Eve is the time to pull out your very best! This is the one night of the year you can't possibly over-dress, so have fun with it! We decided to pair this gorgeous asymmetric relaxed silhouette gown from Malene Birger Niccala with our long statement Yellowwood Necklace. Ultra chic black accessories pull the look together, though we played up the shape of the heel since our dress is the perfect blank canvas to accessorize. We also couldn't help but set the mood for 2016 with our chic and fun XO Hugs and Kisses earrings.
Let the festivities begin!
Last but not least, here's an invitation to get you in the holiday spirit!

Ten Scarves to Color You Happy October 28, 2015 13:49
The weather has started to cool off and in the process of pulling out my Fall wardrobe I have discovered that almost all of my scarves are either black or white! August is National Breastfeeding Month August 5, 2015 08:00
As many of you may already know, supporting mother's who breastfeed is dear to our heart's at Applepear. In March we released our Breastfeeding Support Necklaces as a way of spreading a sense of community amongst nursing mothers, as well as to raise funds for the International Lactation Consultant Association (www.ILCA.org). Breastfeeding is such an amazing bonding experience, and offers a long list of health benefits for child development.
"I loved breastfeeding my two daughters. The first month with the first daughter was REALLY rocky. There was a lot of crying (both her and me). I wouldn’t have made it through that tough time without my husband, some awesome lactation consultants, and some supportive groups."
- Applepear Owner and Designer, Priscilla Carreon
During the month of August we encourage you to learn more about breastfeeding, to do something to help the busy moms in your life who are breastfeeding, or simply show your support and encourage them. It takes a village!
